Revised by Board of Directors: August 12, 2024

Blind River Curling Club

Policy Name: Bar Policy

Policy Number: BRCC – 01

Version Date: September 5, 2018

Board Approval Date: September 5, 2018

1. PREAMBLE:

The Blind River Curling Club (BRCC) is a sport and social facility. The club is dedicated to our customers’ pleasure and satisfaction and safety. When it comes to serving alcohol, our staff and volunteers will not serve alcohol to patrons to the point of intoxication or to patrons who are already intoxicated. Nor will we serve patrons who are troublesome, dangerous or under the legal drinking age. This policy adheres to information on the Alcohol and Gaming Commission Website www.agco.ca.

2. GUIDELINES:

Monitoring the Door

The BRCC will deny access to rowdy or intoxicated persons and prevent overcrowding. The club capacity allowed on the BRCC liquor license by the bar allows 168 on the main floor and 71 people downstairs.

Food

A variety of snacks will be available at the bar.

Alternative Beverages

The BRCC will offer competitively priced non-alcoholic and low alcohol beverages.

Staff/Bar Volunteers

The Blind River Curling Club bar staff and volunteers must have a valid smart serve certification. The list of smart serve numbers is posted at the bar, but volunteers are required to have their smart serve cards on their person. Contact the BRCC Secretary to add your smart serve number to the list. Volunteers should recognize signs of intoxication and know how to intervene to keep customers safe. If you require assistance, please ask. Staff and volunteers are prohibited from drinking alcohol while working at the bar. Staff and bar volunteers will review the Bar Policy and become familiar with it. A procedural guideline on how to run the bar, cash register machine and debit machine is available at the bar.

Transportation

Please be aware that a patron may need assistance to get a ride home. The taxi service phone number will be available at the bar. If a club member offers a ride to a patron, there should be at least two individuals accompanying the patron to their destination.

Underage Customers

Under drinking age customers are welcome, however, they will not be allowed to consume alcohol. Patrons must be 19 years of age or older to buy alcoholic beverages. They may be asked to show your age of majority card. Under no circumstance shall a person under the age of 19 be permitted to consume or be provided with alcoholic beverages of any kind. (All incidents of minors being refused must be documented on the incident report log located at the bar)

Customers’ and Alcohol Use

Club members will endeavor to assist customers to drink alcohol safely and responsibly. The Club will not serve customers to the point of intoxication. The club will not serve already intoxicated customers. Customers who are intoxicated or are becoming intoxicated will be denied alcohol service. They will be offered non-alcohol drinks.

Managing the Intoxicated Person

Pat of a server’s job is to monitor and pace the service of alcohol to guests. Keep in mind that, when refusing service, the server’s personal safety always comes first. If a server feels their safety is in danger, they should walk away and notify the bar staff, Curling Club Board member, or a back-up person on site. If a customer becomes intoxicated or is acting dangerously, staff or bar volunteers will carefully and politely deal with that person and may ask them to leave the club and ensure safe transportation. Refusal to leave the club may require police involvement. Police contact information is at the bar. (All incidents of intoxication/ejection from the club must be recorded on the attached incident/accident report form.)

Incident/Accident Report Form

The attached Incident/Accident Report Form is in a binder at the bar; and completed by staff or volunteers and given to the Club President and treated in a confidential manner. The form should reflect the following situations:

= An intoxicated guest is refused service.

= A minor presents a false ID.

= A guest becomes violent, or a fight breaks out.

= Any time staff asks a guest to leave.

= You arrange transportation for an intoxicated guest.

= A liquor inspector visits your establishment.
